About Founder Secretary

Our founder secretary Late Prithish Bhattacharya was born in South Kolkata. Honorable Late Prithish Bhattacharya was a close relative of renowned musician Late Kumar Birendra Kishore Roy Chowdhury, the Zamindar of Gauripur (now in Bangladesh). He had developed a keen interest in music while staying at Rajbari in Kolkata (Gauripur house). From childhood he started learning the Sitar from Late Bimala Kant Roy Chowdhury, nephew of Late Birendra Kishore Roy Chowdhury , disciple of Late Ustad Inayat Khan and continued his studies till the Guru’s death in 1980. He also studied classical music and history of Indian music from Late Birendra Kishore and studied Sitar for about 12 years from Ustad Bilayet Hossain Khan and Imrat Hossain Khan. Heavenly Master Mustaq Ali Khan was very fond of him.

In 1979 “Prayag Sangeet Samity” Allahabad, now Prayagraj got 2nd place in Sangeet Praveen (M. Mus) examination and got silver medal. Shri Bhattacharya has regularly attended various musical events of the country and had been employed as an examiner for various examination conducting organizations of the country. He wrote many books on music and art theory. At the inception of “Sastriya Sangeet Kala Parishad” in 1988, he accepted the post of Secretary of the Parishad under the direction of Late Shri Karali Mohan Chatterjee and served with credit to promote and spread “Sastriya Sangeet Kala Parishad” all over the country.

In 2020, Shri Bhattacharya handed over the charge of the Secretary of the Parishad to the Present Secretary Shri Kingshuk Bhattacharya and acceped the post of President on the request of Parishad Management Committee and hold the post till his death on 3rd February 2022. His subsequent Management Committee is committed to continue in the path shown by him. “Sastriya Sangeet Kala Parishad” pays tribute to our founder Secretary.
